answered plainly
What kinds of videos work best?
Videos with one clearly visible person: talking heads, presentations, interviews, UGC ads. Backdrop is built specifically for people, so it will not reliably cut out products, animals, cars, or scenes without a person.
Do I need a green screen?
No. Backdrop separates you from any reasonably distinct background. Even lighting and some contrast between you and the background still improve edge quality.
Why is transparent output WebM and not MP4?
MP4/H.264 has no alpha channel, so a 'transparent MP4' is not technically possible. We export transparency as VP9 WebM, which all major editors and browsers support. If you need MP4, choose a solid colour or image background instead.
Is my audio kept?
Yes. The original audio track is carried into the processed file whenever the source video has one.
How long does processing take?
Typically around real time or faster on our GPUs. A 60-second clip usually finishes in about a minute, plus a short queue wait when a GPU is cold-starting.
What happens if a job fails?
If processing fails because of an error on our side, the credits for that job are refunded automatically.
What are the limits?
Up to 50 MB and 5 minutes per video during the beta. MP4, MOV, and WebM input formats are supported, up to 4K.
